On seismic protection of wind turbine foundations founded on liquefiable soils

چکیده
Wind turbine structures can be susceptible to damage from earthquake loading due large overturning moments at the foundation level. As wind energy market expands seismically active parts of world, it becomes important evaluate seismic behaviour these structures. Especially, earthquake-induced liquefaction when farms are located on sites with marginal soil conditions such as loose, saturated sands or non-plastic silts. Reduction stiffness during cause excessive settlement and/or rotation. Thus, suitable mitigation methods should investigated. This paper discusses liquefiable and effectiveness stone column-based method. Two geotechnical centrifuge tests were conducted without columns for a model circular raft foundation. The results show that significantly reduce both rotation raft. • supported by is damages. Foundation tilt caused likely turbine's performance. Installing foundations.

Crack Monitoring of Operational Wind Turbine Foundations
The degradation of onshore, reinforced-concrete wind turbine foundations is usually assessed via above-ground inspections, or through lengthy excavation campaigns that suspend wind power generation. Foundation cracks can and do occur below ground level, and while sustained measurements of crack behaviour could be used to quantify the risk of water ingress and reinforcement corrosion, these crac...
متن کاملEvaluation of seismic performance of pile-supported models in liquefiable soils
The seismic performance of four pile-supported models is studied for two conditions: (i) transient to full liquefaction condition, i.e. the phase when excess pore pressure gradually increases during the shaking; (ii) full liquefaction condition, i.e. defined as the state where the seismically induced excess pore pressure equalises to the overburden stress. The paper describes two complementary ...
متن کاملAnalyzing the Effects of Soil-Structure Interactions on the Static Response of Onshore Wind Turbine Foundations Using Finite Element Method
The use of wind turbines to generate electricity has increased in recent years. One of the most important parts of a wind turbine is the foundation, which should be designed accurately because it is influenced by difference forces. Soil cannot carry tension stress; thus, when a wind turbine foundation is applied eccentricity forces, a gap appears between the soil and foundation. The gap will ha...
متن کاملWireless Concrete Strength Monitoring of Wind Turbine Foundations
Wind turbine foundations are typically cast in place, leaving the concrete to mature under environmental conditions that vary in time and space. As a result, there is uncertainty around the concrete's initial performance, and this can encourage both costly over-design and inaccurate prognoses of structural health. Here, we demonstrate the field application of a dense, wireless thermocouple netw...
